Readwise Reader
Read-it-later app from Readwise that collects articles, PDFs, EPUBs, newsletters, RSS feeds, YouTube transcripts and X threads in one library with highlighting, text-to-speech and the Ghostreader AI assistant.
About Readwise Reader
Serious readers juggle separate apps for saved articles, RSS, newsletters, PDFs and ebooks, and their highlights stay trapped in each app instead of flowing into notes.
Who it’s for
- Heavy readers replacing Pocket, Instapaper, an RSS reader and a PDF reader with one app
- Researchers and writers who want highlights synced through Readwise to Obsidian, Notion, Logseq and other note-taking tools or to AI assistants via the Readwise MCP server
When to consider it
Consider Readwise Reader when you want one keyboard-driven library for every kind of document, with first-class highlighting, full-text search that works offline, an API and MCP server, and full data export as CSV, OPML and Markdown.
Tradeoffs & limitations
- There is no permanent free plan: after a 30-day free trial, Reader-only costs $7.99 a month billed yearly and the full Readwise subscription (Reader plus Highlights) costs $9.99 a month billed yearly or $12.99 billed monthly. A 50% discount is offered on request to students, educators, non-profits and some other groups.
- Reader-only subscriptions do not include Readwise Highlights features such as Kindle and Apple Books highlight import and Daily Review; those need the full Readwise plan.
