MemOS
A memory operating system from MemTensor that gives LLM apps and agents long-term memory through a hosted cloud API, an open-source framework, a local-only Lite version and agent plugins.
About MemOS
LLM agents lose user preferences and task context between sessions, and building layered storage, retrieval and updating of memories yourself is complex.
Who it’s for
- Developers adding persistent, personalized memory to assistants and agents
- Teams that need memory shared or isolated across several agents, including on private or on-prem deployments
When to consider it
Consider MemOS when you want an open-source memory layer for agents that can run as a hosted API or entirely locally, with an MCP server and agent plugins.
Tradeoffs & limitations
- The free cloud plan includes 50K memory adds and 20K searches a month and up to 10 knowledge bases; the Starter and Pro plans are currently listed at $0 (normally $19 and $286 a month), and private deployment requires a custom Enterprise plan.
- The open-source framework is Apache-2.0 licensed. The hosted cloud is run by MemTensor (memtensor.com.cn) under a Chinese ICP licence, so check whether that suits your data-residency requirements.
