Hatchet
Open-source orchestration engine for background tasks, AI agents and durable workflows, with retries, scheduling, rate limits and built-in observability.
About Hatchet
Long-running AI agent and background jobs fail midway, and building reliable queues, retries, schedules and tracing yourself is costly.
Who it’s for
- Developers running AI agents or background jobs from TypeScript, Python or Go
- Teams replacing Celery or self-managed queues with durable workflows
When to consider it
Consider Hatchet when you want durable tasks, DAG workflows, cron jobs and rate limiting with a monitoring UI, either on Hatchet Cloud or self-hosted under MIT.
Tradeoffs & limitations
- Hatchet Cloud is pay-as-you-go: without a card you get 2,000 task runs a day; with a card on file the first 1M runs and 1M events per month are free, then $30 per million runs and $5 per million events. SSO, RBAC, audit logs and HIPAA need a custom plan.
- Self-hosting is free under the MIT licence, but you run and operate the engine yourself.
