Scira
Open-source (AGPL-3.0) AI search and research engine that splits a question into sub-searches across the web, X, Reddit, YouTube, academic papers and GitHub, then writes an answer with a source behind each sentence.
About Scira
Chat answers without sources are hard to trust, and checking a question across the web, social posts, papers and code by hand takes many separate searches.
Who it’s for
- People who want cited answers drawn from the web, X, Reddit and YouTube in one search
- Developers who want a self-hostable, open-source AI search app they can run with their own model and search API keys
When to consider it
Consider Scira when you want a research assistant that shows its plan, the sources it read and the citation for each sentence, lets you choose between models from several providers, and offers specialised modes such as academic, GitHub, stocks and fact check.
Tradeoffs & limitations
- The Free plan allows 5 searches a month with basic models. Pro is $15 a month ($9 with a verified school email) with unlimited searches but monthly or weekly caps on premium models such as Claude Sonnet and Opus; Max is $60 a month. Subscription fees are non-refundable.
- The source code is AGPL-3.0, so modified versions offered as a network service must publish their source, and self-hosting needs your own API keys for models and search providers.
