Where your speech is processed

This is the biggest difference between the three. Wispr Flow's security overview says it processes dictated audio in the cloud. Its privacy page says audio is deleted as soon as it is transcribed, unless you turn on Dictation cloud storage, which syncs transcripts, audio and history across your devices.

Aqua Voice runs its own speech model, Avalon, on its servers, and its FAQ says cloud dictation needs an internet connection. With Privacy Mode on, transcripts are not stored on Aqua's servers, although session metadata such as timestamps and device type may still be collected.

Superwhisper lets you pick a voice model and an optional language model for each mode, and either can be local or cloud. Its documentation says that pairing a local voice model with a local language model keeps every stage of a dictation on your machine. On the Free plan, dictation uses local Whisper models, and Superwhisper says nothing you dictate leaves your device. Superwhisper says local models run really well only on Apple Silicon Macs and recommends cloud models on Intel Macs. On Windows, some local models rely on Vulkan GPU support.

Free plans and trials

Wispr Flow’s free plan resets weekly, but its official pages describe the limits differently. The plans guide lists a 2,000-word allowance and 5,000-word maximum on Mac and Windows. The dedicated limit article says allowances vary by platform and account and uses a shared count across devices. Check the app’s current allowance and reset information instead of relying on older fixed mobile figures. Dictation slows at the allowance and stops at the maximum.

Superwhisper's free plan has no word limit when you use local Whisper models, but it allows only 2 modes and no AI processing. New users get 3,000 words of Pro features, including Meetings, before the app falls back to Free. Aqua Voice's free plan is a one-time 1,000 words, after which unlimited dictation needs Pro.

Paid plans and billing

Wispr Flow Pro is $15 per user a month, or $144 per user a year ($12 a month), and adds unlimited dictation. Growth adds SAML single sign-on and organization-wide privacy and HIPAA controls. It costs $23 per user a month or $18 on annual billing for dictation only, and $33 or $26 with the Notetaker. Wispr says currency follows your connection's region and that each currency has its own fixed prices, so non-US prices differ.

Superwhisper Pro is $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once. All three billing options include the same features, and one license covers unlimited Macs and Windows PCs plus your iPhone and Android phone. Pro adds cloud models, AI-powered modes, file transcription and your own API keys.

Aqua Voice Pro is $12 a month, or $10 a month billed annually, for unlimited words, custom instructions and a personal dictionary. Max is $24, or $19 billed annually, and adds Realtime Mode and voice commands. Business is $24 per seat a month or $228 per seat a year, with a minimum of 2 seats, and adds single sign-on, SCIM provisioning and Zero Data Retention.

Meetings, coding tools and compliance

Wispr Flow includes a Notetaker on Mac and Windows that records on your device without a bot joining the call; the free plan has a weekly meeting limit. Superwhisper's Meetings feature records meetings on a Mac with no bot in the call. On Windows, it offers a Meeting mode with system audio instead. Aqua Voice's pricing page lists MCP and CLI access on every plan and does not list a meeting notetaker.

Superwhisper documents integrations with coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, plus a CLI and MCP server, on macOS; these are not yet available on Windows. Wispr Flow says it is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified. Aqua Voice says it has a SOC 2 Type II report, ISO 27001 certification, and GDPR and HIPAA compliance. Superwhisper lists SOC 2 Type II certification on its Enterprise plan.

How to choose

SOTA's assessment is documentation-based; it includes no hands-on testing, accuracy measurements or speed benchmarks. Consider Superwhisper when dictation must work offline or stay on your device, or when you would rather pay once than subscribe. Consider Wispr Flow when you want a weekly free allowance, 100+ languages and a bot-free meeting notetaker alongside dictation. Consider Aqua Voice when its 49 languages cover your needs and you want its custom instructions or dictionary, with Realtime Mode available on Max. Superwhisper has the lowest listed annual Pro subscription price in this comparison. Dictate your own vocabulary on the free plan or trial before paying, and check which billing period a quoted price assumes.
